Ed Stanistreet driving TFM to become one of Australia

Ed Stanistreet, our General Manager, recounts how in ten years, Toyota Fleet Management has been built into one of Australia’s leading fleet management organisations – and a benchmark within the Toyota Group. The key to this success? Understanding that businesses need a partner that’s responsive to change.

In 1989, two people in a tin shed at Distributor Thiess Toyota, had a business idea. By 2007, development of that idea and confidence in the vision for our brand had grown to the point where we were given the go-ahead to launch Toyota Fleet Management as a stand-alone operation, delivering a fully-integrated service solution.

Today, we’re one of Australia’s biggest and most respected fleet management organisations, offering the broadest range of products and services from Assets Funded and Funding options. Reflecting on the past decade of growth, one thing has stood out: our willingness to embrace innovation and help our customers take advantage of shifts in technology, business practices and their own customers’ behaviour so as to make the most of their fleet operations.

Our customers are our primary focus.

Customers’ interests are firmly at the heart of Toyota Fleet Management. Not just when times are tough –such as during the Global Financial Crisis and the Thailand Floods– but in the day-to-day as well.

Having a product – and a business model – that’s flexible and transparent is key to keeping customers on board, and developing long-term partnerships across all industry sectors. For instance, our customers can change their contract to reflect their actual vehicle usage and kilometre allowance, as well as the option of extending or varying lease terms. And we have built a full salary packaging capability to enhance our novated leasing. Our products allow our customers to streamline their operations, and dial up or down their needs when required, and we deliver a more responsive and practical service as a result.

Our people are trained to have the knowledge, experience and expertise required to succeed, and become a trusted fleet advisor and partner for each and every customer. In addition to this, our highly-experienced team leaders – each with over 15 years’ experience in the industry – understand the challenges businesses face, which is critical as it allows us to forecast future directions and smooth the way ahead for our customers and partners.

Championing innovation is part of our foundational philosophy.

Toyota Fleet Management prides itself on being ‘Future Ready’; we’re always looking for the next innovative product.  With ForceField Telematics®, our mobile technology tracks vehicle and driver behaviour, companies can gather insights on ‘at risk’ drivers. Not only can this save lives, it also adds real value to the bottom line, by opening up possible reductions in insurance claims and costs.

Car Sharing is a new online centralised, web-based scheduling, booking and reporting system that offers full visibility over a shared fleet, and helps maximise efficiencies and reduce costs.

We’ve also extended Toyota’s philosophy of continuous improvement to our comprehensive insurance. Covering a broad range of assets, including passenger, light and heavy commercial, materials handling, plant and equipment, it offers the tailored solutions today’s CFOs expect.

Here’s to the next ten years!

The past ten years have seen significant changes across fleet management. We predict the next decade will be just as exciting, if not more so. But no matter what’s in store, Toyota Fleet Management is well positioned to meet the challenges ahead.
