With 14 years’ experience in fleet, Antony Sabato knows a thing or two about the automotive industry. He’s a big believer in making the most of each day and challenging the status quo. This attitude has undoubtedly helped him turn TFM’s salary packaging arm into the hugely successful operation it is today.
A people person through and through, Antony loves his team and is inspired by their positive energy. And while he probably won’t admit it, he’s clearly a great leader. It’s no coincidence that Antony mentored the Dealer Account Manager of the Year, plus a team member who won the Most Valuable Person Award.
But it’s his achievements in the salary packaging space that he’s best known for.
If you’ve ever looked into salary packaging from TFM, chances are Antony was the driving force behind it. We asked him to explain how it works.
What is salary packaging?
It’s an agreement between an employer and employee, that lets the employee sacrifice some of their salary in return for a benefit. This can include a car, mobile phone, professional memberships and more.
How does it benefit an employee?
You pay for these items with your pre-tax salary, which reduces your taxable income. That means you pay less tax and have more disposable income than if you buy the items outright.
Does this include novated leasing?
Yes. It’s a great way to get into the car you want now, even if it’s not used for work.
What do you like about your role at TFM?
I get to run a business within a business, managing my own P&L.
What motivates you every day?
Chasing a sense of accomplishment and personal pride.
Who inspires you and why?
I am immensely inspired by the people in my team who come to the office every day with their game-face on. They are up-and-about, filled with positive energy and they help to create a fertile vortex of positivity where nothing’s a problem.
What does leadership mean to you?
Being someone that people willingly follow by:
- Having a genuine interest in people;
- Clearly articulating your vision;
- Possessing the trait of humility (don’t take yourself too seriously);
- Being a person of integrity, what you say is what you do; and
- Having a hard-working ethic.
How do you feel you’ve grown over the years at TFM?
By running the salary packaging team and the Small Business Centre, the buck stops with me. I’m accountable for every success and failure, which has helped me to grow into a leader.
