Gavin Jackson

With over 20 years’ experience in fleet, Gavin Jackson knows a thing or two about sales. In his time at Toyota Fleet Management (TFM), Gavin has been behind major improvements and developments across the board.

In 2003, Gavin started his time at TFM focusing on three key areas – improving the team, building customer relationships and enhancing fleet dealer relationships. His dedication and hard work has paid off, with big business wins and impressive sales results. Gavin is now Head of Sales, managing the sales teams and setting them up for future success.

A major achievement was playing a major role in Victoria in facilitating the coming together of TFM, Toyota, Hino, Lexus and Materials Handling to form a single entity – One Toyota. As Australia’s only complete fleet solution, five diverse companies now work together to give customers access to a great range of assets, from cars, to trucks, to forklifts – all with one point of contact.

In Gavin’s 20 years in fleet, he has picked up a lot of knowledge along the way. So we asked him to share some of his learnings.

What are some personal words of wisdom?

Your personal brand is very important. Careers are built over decades, so you need to be patient. 

And on a professional level?

Fleet is all about relationships so make friends with your customers and avoid making a short-term decision that can have a long-term impact. 

What do you like about working for TFM?

It is a brand to be proud of. We actually stand for something in the market. There is a lot of respect for Toyota and everyone here understands they have a higher purpose not just as an FMO but also to be part of a wider group recognised as being number one in the markets we serve.

How do you feel you’ve grown in your time at TFM?

We have been such a stable and successful team for a long period now. With that comes an awareness of the responsibility that comes from leading the Sales Team to ensure we continue with the right culture & behaviours that reflect well on the brand.

Can you describe a time you feel like you added value?

In my time as head of sales, I’ve focused on building process and discipline. This included implementing consistent standards and processes across all states. We’ve also strengthened our relationships with customers by becoming an irreplaceable business partner; a trusted fleet advisor.

What’s been your greatest achievement?

The growth of our sales teams and many of the individuals in it. That’s my greatest source of pride.

What motivates you every day?

As a salesman I am very results focused. I get a thrill out of achieving my goals, and I love seeing my customers and my team achieve theirs.

What’s something nobody knows about you?

Having worked hard earlier in my career I’ve just in the past few years discovered the pleasures of international travel. Six trips in the past 5 years and more in the planning.
